When: June 22-23, 2009 (Monday and Tuesday)
Time: 9:00am – Noon each day
Ages: Entering 1st grade-completing 3rd grade
Fee: $50 for Frontier Texas! members
$60 for non-members
Fee includes all supplies, a t-shirt, snacks, all activities and a DVD.

This camp is for young buckaroos who want to experience life on the frontier. As the kids participate in fun and educational activities they will be creating their own movie that will premier at the end of their camp experience.


When: June 25-26, 2009 (Thursday and Friday)
Time: 9:00am - 2:30pm each day
Ages: Entering 4th grade-entering 6th grade
Fee: $55.00 for Frontier Texas! members
$65 for non-members
Fee includes all supplies, a t-shirt, snacks, all activities and a DVD.

This two day camp is for adventurous kids who want to experience the dramatic challenges of trying to survive on the frontier. As the kids experience challenging activities based on frontier life they will also be creating a movie that will premier at the end of their camp experience.

From Slavery to Freedom:
Africans in the Americas
February 15, 2007 - April 22, 2007

This exhibit derives its name and content from the 2007 National Black History Theme as set by the Association for the Study of African American Life and History. The theme is dedicated to the struggles of peoples of African descent to achieve freedom and equality in the Americas during the age of emancipation. The exhibit also looks at the desegregation of Abilene’s public schools and features the quilts of Zella Woodruff.

This exhibit featured the early religious and Christmas traditions from the West Texas frontier. The exhibit centers around the founding churches of Abilene and the surrounding area. The history of “Las Posadas” the Hispanic tradition that has been continuously celebrated for over 300 years, the contributions of the German culture, Christmas on a frontier fort and even the history and photos of Anson’s “Cowboy Christmas Ball” dating back to 1885.
